Making a House a Home

One of the things that I have not done as well as I want to have done is teaching the girls about home and how to be an active part in making it a comfy and fun place to be. So often, I imagined that they would be good at clearing the table, picking up both their shoes AND their socks and placing them in their closets, and jumping to help me fold the clothes. We would have days filled with all of us working together on sweeping, cleaning bathrooms, and dusting. Notice, I didn’t fantasize enough to think they would be fun days but we would all be working together.

Reality check – does. not. happen.

One of the goals that I have for the upcoming couple of hot weather months is tackling these things and working on habits that I have let slip. Chores are never fun but they are a functional part of family. That part of our family is not functioning right now and so we are going to give it a tune up.

How? Don’t really know but we’ll work on it. Together. At Home.

I fixated on the first sentence of this post. Perhaps it would create an fun atmosphere if each person were asked to tell a “silly” ie. joke, funny story, fun event, before some joint work effort..

You’re right. Something fun would help. Now if only I can remember to do that!
