We are so excited to be a part of the Poppins Book Nook, a virtual book club for kids all ages (or anyone who likes to read like a kid!), for 2014-2015. Each month the book club will choose a theme. Each of the bloggers co-hosting the Poppins Book Nook will select a book appropriate for their students and then choose an activity or two or more that relates to the theme and the chosen book. On the last Monday of each month, we will all share those posts.
Want to know about the Poppins Book Nook? Hop over to Enchanted Homeschooling Mom to read more about Poppins Book Nook. Today, March 4, Poppins Book Nook turns 1! This year, she is doing something neat and new. She is sharing FREE printables to go along with the monthly theme. By the end of the next year of Poppins Book Nook, your students will have a unique lapbook that was added to bit by bit all year long. What a neat idea! I can’t wait to get them printed out for my girls so we can use them as we go along. Also, while you are visiting Enchanted Homeschooling Mom, you can enter to win a Kindle Fire!
AND NOW…. this month’s theme is:
Where In The World?
I am currently combing through the many books that are hiding on our shelves and thinking through what we will be doing. I am getting more and more excited about this theme. So many possibilities!
Some books we are considering
- Oh, the Places You’ll Go! by Dr. Seuss
- There’s A Map on My Lap! part of The Cat In The Hat Learning Library by Tish Rabe
- Earthsong by Sally Rogers
- The Drinking Gourd by F.M. Monjo
- My Name is Georgia by Jeanette Winter
- Quentin Blake’s Magical Tales by John Yeoman
- a study of Cinderella tales from around the world
I don’t yet know what the final pick will be. They are all such wonderful books and stories. We may just have to create a unit for each of them but only one will be featured in our Poppins Book Nook post on the last Monday of the month. If you want to be certain to see what we choose and the activities we do, make sure you are following us either by email or on Facebook. You can follow either or both of those through the button on the right hand sidebar.
Meet the Co-Hosts
See you on March 31 for our Poppins Book Nook post. In the meantime, keep on reading. At Home.
