Curriculum Choices

curriculum choices 2014As part of our “Back To Homeschool” week, I thought I would share some of our curriculum choices. The giggly girls will be in kindergarten, 3rd, and 5th grades this year.

As A Family:

  • History of Mystery – This will help us incorporate history, geography, map skills, Bible history, and more. A nice bonus is the hands-on activities broken up so that the girls can each work at their own skill level.
  • Hymn Study – We will do a study of a hymn each week. My husband and I will be writing these as we go along. I will try to come up with a good way to share them with you all.
  • Who is God? – This is a worldview study published by Apologia.
  • Apologia Swimming Creatures of the Fifth Day – Due to some reviews, we did not complete this last year so we will work on finishing it up this fall.

 Kindergarten:

  • Logics of English, Foundations A – We will be using this not as the actual curriculum (we review it last school year) but as a review of phonics to begin the year.
  • Saxon Phonics emergent reader books
  • Math – number work 10-20, addition, subtraction, time, money – no curriculum; will be using printables off of a variety of blogs
  • Five In A Row
  • Homeschool Piano
  • ARTistic Pursuits – lower elementary book 1
  • Writing prompts (later in the fall)

 Other learning activities:

  • Poppins Book Nook – We participate in this virtual book club every month as a co-host, posting our book and activities on the last Monday of each month here on the blog.
  • Dance – All three girls participate in ballet and tap or jazz.
  • History Fair – This will take place in November.
  • Science Fair – This will take place in January or February.
  • Various field trips – We will participate in a number of different field trips throughout the year, some with our homeschool support group and some on our own.
  • The Old Schoolhouse Review Crew – Throughout the year, we will be receiving various products to use and evaluate. Our reviews of those products will be shared here on the blog.

So, that is the basic curriculum plan. I am certain it will change a bit as we get into the nitty gritty of it all but I don’t expect it to change much, other than review products which always throw in a twist of fun. At Home.

I’m sitting here working on my list of curriculum for my girls and preparing my choices post for tomorrow. I see a lot of similar items on your list that will be on mine too 😀

Fun choices! Apologia science, Artistic Pursuits, and Logic of English are on our lists as well! I’m really looking forward to what we’re using this upcoming year. I just can’t quite get motivated to begin our new year. It’s a little overwhelming! But at least I’ve made all my curricula choices!

That is exactly how I am feeling. I love our choices and am excited about them. I am just having difficulty in choosing a day to start and putting it together in some semblance of a schedule.

Thanks. I think we are all pretty excited about most of the choices.
