Kneel At The Cross – hymn

Do you know this one? Do you do this? Do you “kneel at the cross”? I guess it kind of comes down to semantics for whether you do this or not but for me, it is a heart thing. Do I go to God when things get me down? Do I spend time with Jesus? Do I read God’s word? Do I see God, hanging on the cross, taking all of my sin – these things I mess up every. single. day. – taking my burdens, and dying in my stead, allowing me to one day be with him in heaven for eternity, if I have followed His commands?

Do I allow Jesus to intercede for me? That is what He does. He interecedes. He is the high priest and He “goes between” for me. He meets me there, at the foot of HIS cross, wanting me to give up those things that pull me away from Him and remove my focus from his commands.

So what are those commands?

In Matthew 28 verses 36-40, Jesus tells us those commandments:

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the law and prophets are summed up in these.

But if that is as far as you go in understanding God and His word, you have missed so much of God’s mercy and grace and judgment. Yes, judgment. God promises that there will be a judgment day and if we have not followed all of his commands, we will not be granted the seat we so desire. Remember Matthew 28:19-20? This is just one of many places where loving God takes on a specific action. We are to go out into the world and baptize others in the name of the father and the son and the holy spirit and teach them to obey ALL the commands of Jesus. (emphasis mine)

So I go to the cross. I Kneel at the Cross in singing or prayer or silence, where there is room. Place your anchor at the foot of the cross and Jesus will meet you there.

I hope you enjoy this song as much as I do.

At Home.

Kneel At The Cross

Words and Music: Charles E. Moody (1924)

1 Kneel at the cross,
Christ will meet you there,
He intercedes for you.
Lift up your voice,
Leave with Him your care
And begin life anew. refrain

Refrain:
Kneel at the cross.
Leave every care.
Kneel at the cross.
Jesus will meet you there.

2 Kneel at the cross,
There is room for all
Who would His glory share;
Bliss there awaits,
Harm can ne’er befall
Those who are anchored there. refrain

3 Kneel at the cross,
Give you idols up,
Look unto realms above.
Turn not again
To life’s sparkling cup;
Trust always in His love. refrain

    This is a totally new one to me Lori, Kneel at the cross.. leave every care there. That, some days, is SO hard to do. And yet it’s what the Lord calls us to do. Good hymn.

      For as many hymns as we know that are the same, it always surprises me when you don’t know one I share or I don’t know one you share. Glad you were introduced to a new one.
