Before the Throne of God – hymn

Before the Throne of God

This is a beautiful hymn. I don’t believe we sing it often as it is not one the is terribly familiar to me. But read through these words!

I know that while in heav’n He stands
no tongue can bid me thence depart.

God is in control. No one can remove me from Heaven if God says to me “Enter in, my good and faithful servant.” What a wonderful thought! And something to strive for.

Many of the phrases in this hymn were poignant.

But this is the one that just caught my breath –

. . .for God the just is satisfied
to look on Him and pardon me.

I am pardoned, from everything, because of Jesus. God look on Jesus, on Him, and forgives everything I have ever done. He does not see my sin any longer because of Jesus. Because of Jesus on the CROSS!! No just Jesus coming as a man but taking on all of the sin of the world in order to provide the gift of salvation. What an amazing thing for us.

I am so thankful I have taken advantage of that gift and been baptized, forgiven of my sin, and added to His church. Have you?

At Home.

Before the Throne of God

words: Charitie Bancroft (1863)
music: Hubert Parry (1916)

1 Before the throne of God above
I have a strong, a perfect plea,
a great High Priest, whose name is Love
who ever lives and pleads for me.
My name is graven on His hands,
my name is written on His heart;
I know that while in heav’n He stands
no tongue can bid me thence depart.

2 When Satan tempts me to despair
and tells me of the guilt within,
upward I look, and see Him there
who made an end of all my sin.
Because the sinless Savior died,
my sinful soul is counted free,
for God the just is satisfied
to look on Him and pardon me.

3 Behold Him there! the risen Lamb!
my perfect, spotless righteousness,
the great unchangeable I AM”
the King of glory and of grace!
One with Himself, I cannot die;
my soul is purchased by His blood;
my life is hid with Christ on high,
with Christ my Savior and my God.
