Great Is Thy Faithfulness ~ hymn

Great Is Thy Faithfulness

This morning’s lesson was on faith. I am really enjoying our current series that is looking at promises from the Old Testament and where they are fulfilled or reiterated in the New Testament. Today, our preacher took us to Habakkuk. I know – not a place I have spent a lot of time but I am going to this week. What a beautiful discussion this prophet has with God! And in it, God shows him how faithful he is and will be.

God is always faithful, even when we don’t see or feel it. While it is wonderful to be the recipient of that huge, big gift (life reclaimed, death averted, danger avoided), we are all receiving the gift of faithfulness is a thousand little ways each day. God grants us so much! From his unchanging stance beside and before us, to his strength in holding back the evil one, God is faithful to those he holds dear. And aren’t each of us his children? Wouldn’t he do this for each of his children?

Whether you are looking off the edge of a cliff today or are standing on solid ground, look at our Lord and remember just how great his faithfulness is.

At Home.

Listen to this hymn, Great Is Thy Faithfulness, sung by a congregation of the Lord’s church on the Oklahoma Christian Univeristy site.

Here is the group Acappella singing this hymn.

Great Is Thy Faithfulness

lyrics: Thomas Chisholm (1923)
music: William Runyan (1923)

Great Is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father!
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Though changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not
As Thou hast been Thou forever wilt be.

Great Is Thy faithfulness,
Great Is Thy faithfulness,
Morning by morning new mercies I see;
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided
Great is Thy Faithfulness, Lord unto me!

Summer and winter, and springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon, and stars in their courses above,
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy, and love.

Pardon for Sin and a peace that endureth,
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide,
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!
