When do you talk with Jesus? What do you tell him?
This one rang true with me. There are so many things these days that we tend to tell everyone but the one who really needs to hear them – Jesus. He is the one who can best help your downheartedness. Jesus can lift troubles or hold you up through them. Jesus can share his joy and peace and gladness. Jesus can remove that bitterness and jealousy from your heart.
In James 5:13 and following, we are told to go to Jesus, to pray, about the things in our lives, the good and the bad. God knows. But we are still told to pray. Matthew 7:11 tells us that God listens to those who ask him. We are to pray to the Father and he will give us good gifts. Matthew 6:32 reminds us that God knows what we need. The following verses remind us, though, to put the kingdom of God first and the rest will follow. So place your focus where it needs to be.
To get your focus right, what do you need to tell to Jesus? He is the one, the only one, who has every tool in the box to help you. Tell it to Jesus alone and let Him assist. No one else can do what He can. But he asks us to tell him. Not because he doesn’t already know but because it is a way for us to show our dependence on Him and our obedience to him. We obey because we love him and so we ask him, we tell him.
Tell it to Jesus alone.
Blessings,
At Home.
Tell It To Jesus Alone
lyrics: Jeremiah E. Rankin (1867)
music: E. S. Lorenz (1876)
1 Are you weary, are you heavyhearted?
Tell it to Jesus,
Tell it to Jesus;
Are you grieving over joys departed?
Tell it to Jesus alone.
Chorus:
Tell it to Jesus, tell it to Jesus,
He is a friend that’s well-known;
You’ve no other such a friend or brother,
Tell it to Jesus alone.
2 Do the tears flow down your cheeks unbidden?
Tell it to Jesus,
Tell it to Jesus;
Have you sins that to men’s eyes are hidden?
Tell it to Jesus alone.
[Chorus]
3 Do you fear the gath’ring clouds of sorrow?
Tell it to Jesus,
Tell it to Jesus;
Are you anxious what shall be tomorrow?
Tell it to Jesus alone.
[Chorus]
4 Are you troubled at the thought of dying?
Tell it to Jesus,
Tell it to Jesus;
For Christ’s coming kingdom are you sighing?
Tell it to Jesus alone.
[Chorus]
