On Zion’s Glorious Summit Stood ~ hymn

On Zions Glorious Summit Stood

This is a wonderful song that brings singers together. We are part of a greater church, one of the Lord’s, and we join in the singing of the songs and the worship of God. Isn’t it wonderful to be a part of something so wonderful, so grand, so encompassing? One day, we will join with all those who have gone before us and bow before the great I AM in heaven. What a day that will be!

I found this song an interesting one to research. There are not a whole lot of references to it but I found very quickly that the tune I know is not the one on the pages from the late 1800s. I don’t know which tune this originally set to but the words are good, aren’t they?

On Zion’s Glorious Summit Stood

lyrics: John Kent (probably early 1800s for these lyrics)
music: unknown

On Zion’s glorious summit stood
A numerous host redeemed by blood
They hymned their King in strains divine
I heard the song and strove to join
I heard the song and strove to join

Here all who suffered sword or flame
For truth, or Jesus’ lovely name
Shout victory now and hail the Lamb
And bow before the great I Am
And bow before the great I Am

While everlasting ages roll
Eternal love shall feast their soul
And scenes of bliss, forever new
Rise in succession to their view
Rise in succession to their view

(Sanctus)
Holy, holy, holy Lord
God of hosts, on high adored
Who like me thy praise should sing
O Almighty King
Holy, holy, holy Lord
God of hosts, on high adored
Holy, holy, holy

these lines caught my eye: Holy, holy, holy Lord
God of hosts, on high adored
Who like me thy praise should sing
    O Almighty King
