I Love To Tell The Story ~ hymn

I Love to Tell the Story

Sometimes, we focus on over-seas missions when we talk about sharing the gospel. In fact, I would almost say that is the majority of the talk about sharing God’s Good News. That is one reason that the fourth verse of this hymn really catches my attention.

verse 4 – I love to tell the story
For those who know it best
Seem hungering and thisting
To hear it like the rest.

The service I do within my church family is necessary and perhaps is reaching some of those who are hungering and thirsting to hear the story. It is easy to feel like you aren’t doing your part when you hear so much about reaching out beyond your little circle and touching those who are outside of it. But sometimes – many times, I venture to propose – those who need to hear the Good News are those brothers and sisters sitting around us in worship. Or perhaps those brothers and sisters who have avoided worship for one reason or another.

Today, as you worship with your church family, reach out to just one who needs a hug or a smile. That little act of service might just be what that person needs to see the love of God.

Blessings,
Lori, At Home.

I Love to Tell The Story

lyrics: Catherine Hankey (1866)
music: William G. Fischer (1869)

I love to tell the story
Of unseen things above,
Of Jesus and His glory,
Of Jesus and His love.
I love to tell the story,
Because I know ’tis true;
It satisfies my longings
As nothing else can do.

Refrain:
I love to tell the story,
’Twill be my theme in glory
To tell the old, old story
  of Jesus and His love.

I love to tell the story;
More wonderful it seems
Than all the golden fancies
Of all my golden dreams,
I love to tell the story,
It did so much for me;
And that is just the reason
I tell it now to thee. Refrain

I love to tell the story;
’Tis pleasant to repeat
What seems each time I tell it,
More wonderfully sweet.
I love to tell the story;
For some have never heard
The message of salvation
From God’s own holy Word. Refrain

I love to tell the story;
For those who know it best
Seem hungering and thirsting
To hear it like the rest.
And when, in scenes of glory,
I sing the new, new song,
’Twill be the old, old story,
That I have loved so long. Refrain
