I’ll Be Somewhere Listening ~ hymn

I'll be somewhere listening

I sometimes consider whether I am hearing things right. Do you know what I mean? I feel like I am asking a hundred times a day – what? I just feel like I don’t hear.

What does that mean when it comes to listening for God? What am I missing?

Miss J was singing this earlier this evening and it got me thinking about what I am listening for from God. Some folks talk of hearing a clear call or hearing God talk to them, telling them to do this work or that. I don’t think God speaks that clearly in the current day and age. In fact, he tells us that He speaks to us through His son and His word.

This song, though, got me thinking about His word and the call that comes through His word, the Bible. When I read the Bible, I can “hear” what God wants of me, what He requires of me. I can understand that I should be trying to mimic Jesus and the way He took care of others, had compassion on them, and desired to help them. I can see the example of Jesus in forgiveness and sacrifice.

I am called to be as much like Jesus as I can be so that, when judgement comes, I can hear my name called.
